Manager Previews 18/19 Campaign

As we head into the 2018/19 season GUFC are in a stronger position that ever. Everyone in the club has worked hard over the summer to put the club in state which sets us up for success.

Whilst we have lost last season’s club captain in James Redmond due to moving away we have gained a good number of new players all of a strong standard. We would like to welcome, Jonathan Abaya, Phil Bowyer, Sam Carpenter, Ben Fox, Jordan Hurlow and Connor Quick to the squad. All offering great competition for places.

As a result, we’ve had a change in captaincy with Redders’ departure. Scott Trinder has been named the new skipper and Greg Douthwaite the new Vice-Captain. Both bring great passion for the game and well respected by all within the club.

Pre-season has been strong both on and off the pitch, we have had some good results and strong performances in friendlies whilst also learning a lot against some good opposition too. Off the pitch, we have had some great results with retaining and gaining new sponsors. Sponsors are great at this of level of football, without their support we would not be able to run the club in the manner that we do, or be able to give back to players as the club does. So massive thanks to all sponsors; Setfords, The Rajdoot, GD and Sons, OPM Leasing, DJST, Albury Vineyard and CHD Limited.

We also continue our relationship with Guildford Saints Youth FC, whist we were not able to get a second team up and running this summer we do still aim to do so over the coming seasons and the partnership with Guildford Saints is a key factor in getting that going.

As Manager, I am delighted with the way the squad has shaped up this summer and can’t thank the club committee enough for their work off the pitch to help push this great club forwards. Coming off the back of a double winning season will always bring it’s pressures and whilst everyone within the club realises that the Premier Division will be very tough, we go into it in a confident manner. I have no doubt that with the attitude the players are showing and the strength of the squad, we will have another great season.
